Subspecies, varieties, forms and cultivars of plants belonging to the Echinopsis chrysochete group

  • Echinopsis chrysochete Werderm.: has a very spiny much flattened solitary body to 25 cm in diameter. Flowers 3-4 cm in diameter, orange to red. Distribution: S. Bolivia (Chuquisaca and Tarija) and N. Argentina (Jujuy and Salta).
  • Lobivia chrysochete var. minutiflora Rausch: has smaller flower that expands to only 2,5 cm long. Distribution: Salta, Higher Andes of Argentina.
  • Lobivia chrysochete var. tenuispina (F.Ritter) Rausch: has darker dense spination and colourful golden yellow flowers. Distribution: regions around Iscayachi, Mendez, Tarija, Higher Andes of Bolivia.
